Wimbledon 2024 Begins
It's that time of year already and as the month of July 2024 begins, so too does Wimbledon. At the hallowed grounds of the All England club in SW19 London, the world descends to watch the third Grand Slam of the year and pinnacle of the grass-court season play out.
Last year's thrilling tournament saw Carlos Alcaraz beat Novak Djokovic in an epic men's final that was watched by 15 million people. Can Alcaraz defend his title this year? That will be the question. In his own word's, Alcaraz admits he feels nervous going into Wimbledon this year, saying "I still get nerves when I am playing here... I practiced 45 minutes on Thursday and it's the first time I was nervous in a practice - just because I'm playing here".
Nevertheless, both Alcaraz and Sinner have made it through their respective first rounds as well as notable wins from Coco Gauff, Emma Raducanu (who says she won her game dirty), Danil Medvedev and Naomi Osaka, who had her first win at Wimbledon today in six years. On the women's side, there was a bit of an upset with tournament favourites Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka pulling out of the competition due to shoulder injuries.
Team Uomo Sport at Wimbledon
The win we were most excited about coming out of day 1 of course, was from our very own ambassador Donna Vekik. After her epic performance at the Bad Homburg Open, reaching the finals there in Germany, Vekik has kept her winning streak going at Wimbledon, beating Wang 2 sets to 1 in her first round. She will now face Andreeva in round 2 on Wednesday 3rd July, and of course, be wearing Donna Sport.
Another tennis icon and Uomo Sport ambassador involved in Wimbledon this year is Pat Cash. Although not on the courts playing himself this time, the Aussie legend will be commentating throughout the competition. He is also the first tennis player to wear and represent Uomo Sport and even designed a collaboration with us on some special edition merchandise. Looking forward to seeing him and many other tennis legends at our pop-up style lounge, in Wimbledon village on the 3rd July!
